Manchester United were held by newly-promoted Premier League outfit Brentford in their latest pre-season friendly match. Elsewhere, Arsenal continued their fine run of late by beating Watford 4-1 in a behind-closed-doors game.
The Red Devils opened the scoring in front of a crowded Old Trafford. Youngster Anthony Elanga continued his fine form of late by scoring a sweet volley from inside the box, following a pin-point cross by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Elanga scored in the twelfth minute of the match, eight minutes later, Brentford were level. When the ball fell to Shandon Baptiste on the edge of the United box following a corner, he hit it first time on the volley, which resulted in a superb goal.
Returning loanee Andreas Pereira scored the best goal of the night, similar to the one Baptiste had scored in the first half. However, the Brazilian hit the ball from further out and from open play; it hit the crossbar and bounced inside the goal. Nonetheless, the Red Devils were unable to hold onto their lead and conceded the equalizer in the 78th minute: Bryan Mbueno with a fantastic curling effort from just inside the box.
Arsenal beat Watford in their latest pre-season friendly, the match being played behind closed doors. Eddie Nketiah scored the opening goal for the Gunners in the 16th minute, but Watford equalized before half-time through Philip Zinckernagel, who capitalized on a costly error by Mohamed Elneny.
Mikel Arteta’s side retook the lead in the 70th minute from the penalty spot, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring the goal. Kieran Tierney doubled Arsenal’s lead seven minutes later before academy graduate Miguel Azeez put the game beyond any doubt.
Arsenal play Chelsea next in The Mind Series on August 1, before taking on Tottenham in the same competition on August 8.
