The United States International Giovanni Reyna has emerged as the player to take up Jadon Sancho’s no.7 shirt at Borussia Dortmund. Reyna has developed into a star over the last couple of years at the Signal Iduna Park. With Jadon Sancho leaving the club and joining Manchester United, Reyna will get a bigger and more prominent role in the upcoming season.

Dortmund have acted very swiftly to replace Sancho who ended his four-year stay at Dortmund this summer. The Black and Yellows have signed PSV Eindhoven and Dutch stay winger Donyell Malen replacing the England international. But Malen has taken up the No. 21 shirt which has allowed the American youngster to take up the No. 7 shirt which is left vacant.

Reyna donning the prestigious No.7 jersey was officially announced by the club on all the social media handles. The 18-year-old crafty teenage midfielder earlier donned the No 32 shirt but now with a more important shirt number, there are certain suggestions that the youngster may have a more important role under the new manager, Marco Rose.

The versatile midfielder who can play centrally or even on either flank joined Dortmund back in 2019 from New York City. Reyna who used to feature in New York FC’s academy was scouted by the Black and Yellows before roping him in two years ago.

Ever since joining the club, he created history by being the youngest American to play in the Bundesliga. Still only 18, Reyna has already made 64 appearances for the club and with Marco Rose at the helm, the American is looking at a bigger role at the club in the coming season. Reyna scored three goals in five games guiding Dortmund to clinch the Dfb Poka title. He also appeared in 32 appearances for the Black and Yellows netting four goals and assisting six more goals. These are exceptional statistics for a youngster who mostly came on from the bench as an impact player.

Securing the prestigious No.7 shirt, Reyna may fight for a starting position as Borussia Dortmund aim to end Bayern Munich’s dominance in the Bundesliga.
