Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has clearly stated that his talks over Kylian Mbappe’s future at the French capital will be kept private. The Argentine also assured that he won’t freeze out the French youngster despite a contract dispute with the Parisians.
The 22-year-old forward who has been influential in PSG’s success over the years is entering the final year of his current contract. But still, no contract agreement has been agreed with the club as of now. Looking at the current contract dispute Real are waiting in the corner to pounce at the right time to lure Mbappe away from the Parc des Princes.
Paris Saint-Germain will have to make some tough calls in the coming few weeks or else they may see their most prized possession leave the club for free next summer. Mbappe can sign pre-contract deals in this January transfer window, which can be a big problem for the Parisians.
The Parisians have already extended the current contract with Neymar, who reportedly wants to win the Champions League with PSG and even Mbappe recently revealed that he shares the same dream. But with contract complications, the upcoming season can be his last shot at the continental triumph in Paris.
When asked about Mbappe’s contract situation, the Argentine told Le Parisien:
What’s clear is that Kylian still has a year left on his contract.
He’s a player in the squad and we’ll treat him in the same way we would someone who has another five years left.
It’s different but every situation can develop and evolve – that kind of thing is managed at another level, on the sporting level it changes nothing.
When quizzed whether he has had any talks with Mbappe over his future, he added:
Those are private discussions. But Kylian has not talked about that with me.
While Mbappe’s future is still unclear, PSG have already started weighing their chances of signing Manchester United midfield ace Paul Pogba. The Parisians have already signed players like Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Achraf Hakimi. However, there can be more players coming in at the French capital. Pogba has also entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and the links of him joining PSG is gaining traction with every passing day.
The French giants have been linked with Pogba for a long time as they feel that his ball-playing ability and combative nature makes him a perfect player to compliment someone like Marco Verratti. The 28-year-old midfielder relishes a free role where he can dictate the tempo and play out some inch-perfect long balls. His performances at the Euros 2020 were also lauded despite France crashing out against Switzerland in the round of 16 on penalties.
However, Pochettino has denied giving away any names and does not want to create unnecessary excitement and speculations.
I won’t give any names, I don’t like to speak about players who belong to other clubs. The club is working away quietly, achieving some good things. At the end of the window, we’ll see who the new players are – if there are any – and which players leave the squad.
he said.
The French giants failed to win the Ligue 1 last season and they even crashed out of the Champions League after losing to Manchester City in the semifinals. Hence the management went on to flex their financial muscle to sign some top players in some of their areas of weakness. Currently, Paris Saint Germain look like a very complete side and the favourites to win the continental title for the upcoming season.
When quizzed whether this is the most complete and perfect side, Pochettino opined, “You always have surprises.
A balance needs to be found between arrivals and departures. Like with all clubs, there will be some adjustments made over the course of the summer.
We have to remain attentive to any opportunities.
