    Indian cricketers including KL Rahul, Ravi Ashwin, Sachin Tendulkar lined up to congratulate Mirabai Chanu after she won a silver medal in the 49kg weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics. 

    India got off to an incredible start at the Tokyo Olympics with Mirabai Chanu clinching a silver medal on the first day of the world event. Chanu became the first Indian to win a medal in Tokyo Olympics as she clinched a silver in 49kg weightlifting. The congratulatory messages flooded in as the whole country celebrated the glorious moment. Several Indian cricketers joined in to congratulate the 26-year-old weightlifter. 

    India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin talked about the relentless efforts the athletes have to put in to win a medal while KL Rahul summed his feelings with a simple “Take a bow”.

    India’s former cricketer, legendary Sachin Tendulkar also hailed her for the achievement.

    The way you have transformed yourself after your injury and clinched a historic silver for Team India is absolutely stupendous.

    After this ‘Dream come true’ moment, Mirabai Chanu took to Twitter to thank her family, authorities, coaches and support staff for the support she has received on this journey.

    Mirabai Chanu left the disappointing memories of Rio 2016 behind with this incredible achievement. Chanu displayed immense strength in the 49kg category of women’s weightlifting. She lifted 87 kg in the snatch and then went on to lift 115 kg in clean & jerk to ensure a silver medal.

    Chanu became only the second Indian female weightlifter to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleswari, who had won a bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Overall, Chanu became the fifth Indian women’s athlete to win an individual medal in the Olympics.
