This might be the summer Manchester United decide to finally part ways with their record signing. Reports claim that the club is contemplating selling Paul Pogba, with Paris Saint Germain waiting in the wings to make an offer.
According to the Daily Mail, United are contemplating whether to sell the Frenchman this summer. Pogba, who signed for the Red Devils in a world-record fee in 2016, will be out of contract next summer. Failure to do that this summer would allow the Frenchman to walk free in a year.
Paris Saint-Germain have a long-standing interest in Pogba and could pounce to sign him for a cut-price fee. The report claims that Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, is currently negotiating personal terms with PSG on behalf of his client. The Parisiens, meanwhile, believe that they can sign Pogba for half of what Manchester United paid Juventus back in 2016, which comes to around 45 million pounds.
PSG have been quite active in the transfer market already. The French super club has signed Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Sergio Ramos – all on a free transfer. They have also bought Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan in a big-money deal.
As for Pogba’s potential replacements, United do have in-house options but can also dip into the transfer market. The Red Devils signed Donny Van De Beek last summer, who is capable of playing deeper, as part of a midfield three or a double pivot. However, the Dutchman found opportunities hard to come by during his first season at the club and was reduced to a bench player.
Manchester United have also been continuously linked with Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. The teenager is yet to tie himself down to a new contract with Rennes, meaning that, like Pogba, he too will become a free agent next summer.
This summer, Ligue 1 side can cash in on the midfielder to retain a transfer fee, with United among those interested in signing him.
