United are looking to stabilize their backline ahead of the next season as they are looking at Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane as the new partner for Harry Maguire at the centre of the defence. United’s leaky backline cost them their title challenge and the Europa League final in May.
With only a year left in his contract, the Los Blancos understand that they would be forced to let the 28-year-old leave for free if they do not sell him this summer, with the Whites said to be eager to keep their man.
Manchester United’s interest in Varane has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The journalist explained on Twitter that Varane is ready to accept the contract proposal from United until 2026, provided the clubs agree on a deal for the player.
It is understood that Los Blancos champions are demanding around £40 million for the services of the Frenchman, and the Red Devils are said to be preparing an official bid after having been in talks with Real Madrid for the last four days.
Varane’s experience could be the difference between United showing an underwhelming display in the Champions League group stages and early knockout phases to actually making it through to the business end of the highly coveted tournament.
With the defender set to be valued at around £40-45 million, it is certainly going to be one of the bargain deals of the summer. Varane has been one of the long-term targets of Manchester United for a very long-time, and the Red Devils could finally land their man this summer.
United are likely to hand themselves a very balanced and different-looking team for the next reason as the former Premier League champions are also said to be closing in on Rennes’ talent, Eduardo Camavinga.
The French side are said to expect a fee in the range of £30-35 million which would be a bargain for any side that is looking to sign him as his release clause is set at £100 million.
Camavinga, 18, is one of the bright talents to emerge from France in the recent past, and he could well be the long-term replacement for Paul Pogba at the club.
