Los Blancos goalkeeper has inked a new contract with the club, keeping him till the summer of 2026.
The Belgian custodian has been with Real Madrid since 2018. The lanky Belgian has guided Los Blancos to the La Liga title in 2019-20 and that until now has been the only silverware that he has achieved in Real Madrid colours. However, Courtois has been extremely consistent for the Blancos in the last couple of seasons. He is probably one of the most dependable players on that roster.
His arrival Premier League deadline day in 2018 was full of controversies because of his earlier association with Atletico Madrid. He spent three seasons on loan with the Rojibalncos, and therefore joining their arch-rivals later did not sit well with the Atleti fans.
Courtois had a nervy start to his Real Madrid campaign but once the initial nerves were gone, the Belgian only grew in stature for Los Blancos. The 29-year-old has made 130 appearances for the Spanish giants and has registered 52 clean sheets, establishing himself as one of the best custodians in world football.
It was a disappointing last season for the entire Real side as they missed out on the LaLiga with Atletico winning it. The Blancos were also knocked out of the Champions League after they lost in the semifinals against Chelsea.
Therefore this season becomes all the more crucial for Real. They have brought back Carlo Ancelotti and have also allowed their starting centre back duo of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane to leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer. They are yet to sign a new player this summer as they currently monitor Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe’s situation in the French capital.
