Former India wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel said that Rishabh Pant should not be burdened by the comparisons with MS Dhoni. He can be better than the former India captain, and he can win matches on his own. Patel also singled out Pant as the key for the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming season of the IPL.
Rishabh Pant was India’s first-choice wicket-keeper batsman across formats after the World Cup in 2019. However, his inconsistency led to him being dropped in early 2020. He retained his place in the Test side but faced the axe in the white-ball formats. Post the lockdown, Pant didn’t have a great IPL season, and his fitness was an issue as well. He wasn’t picked for the white-ball leg of the Australian tour, and the team management came down hard on him.
However, the 23-year-old superstar came back with a bang and ever since he was picked in the team in the Boxing Day Test match against Australia, he hasn’t looked back. He has proved his mettle across formats and has become a vital cog in the Indian line-up. His confidence is sky-high as well. He was also named the Delhi Capitals captain after Shreyas Iyer injured his shoulder and was ruled out.
Former India stumper Parthiv Patel felt Pant would be the X-factor for the Delhi Capitals this time around as he is high on confidence and is a match-winner. He also said that Pant needn’t worry about the comparison with Dhoni, and he can be a better player than the legendary skipper.
Pant was burdened with the comparison of MS Dhoni and he also tried to do that last year, but he himself is a brilliant player. He doesn’t have to worry about being like MS Dhoni. He can be better than MS Dhoni or he can win matches on his own every given time. So, I think he will be probably hold the key for Delhi Capitals,
Parthiv Patel was quoted saying in a show named ‘Game Plan’ on Star Sports.
