Villareal centre-back Pau Torres has once again taken the transfer rumours by storm as several outlets link him to Manchester United. The Red Devils will be in the market looking for defenders this summer and if reports are to be believed then the Villareal centre-back is one of the top priorities for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Torres has recently admitted that he would like to jump ship to a bigger club and experience that feeling at some point in his career. The Spanish defender has been a very vital cog in Unai Emery’s system. He has been crucial for them in the La Liga and also in the Europa League where the Yellow Submarines have reached the semifinals and will take on Arsenal.
Pau Torres has been a spearhead in defence for Villareal alongside players like Raul Albiol, Juan Foyth, and others. The 24-year-old has been in great form for the last couple of seasons and therefore then-coach Roberto Moreno handed him the national team debut in 2019 and since then he has not looked back. He has registered seven appearances for La Roja and has even scored a goal in the European qualifiers against Malta.
The 24-year-old defender has played with several big names and has often heard stories of their experiences at bigger clubs. Therefore, he also wants to take the same path in the near future.
Players who have gone through important clubs, when they talk about an experience they have had, I like to listen to them, both Paco Alcacer and Raul Albiol or Alberto Moreno. They tell you things that you have not yet experienced and that you think you would like to experience.
Torres has told Sport.
While there is a lot of interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United the Spaniard, for now, is focused on his task at hand. Villareal are in the semifinals of the Europa League and if they want to go past Arsenal then Torres will have to play a big role in stopping their potent attack. Also, a top-six finish in the La Liga is on the cards for the Yellow Submarine and there also Torres will have to play the crunch matches and perform at a certain level.
While he is delighted to know that some of the top European teams have him on their wishlist, his main focus still lies with Villareal and then with the Spain national team for the upcoming Euros.
It is a pride to see that your work is reflected in this type of thing that is spoken, but I face it with great tranquillity, I am in a great club like Villarreal, and from the tranquillity I work every day,
Torres added.
There is still a lot ahead of me and my short-term goals are the European semi-final and then to be available for the national team. Right now I have a contract (until 2024) and I know that I still have room for improvement. I know that I am in a club where they will treat me well, I will not lack anything and that is very important to me,
he signed off.
