Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes that the Red Devils are behind Manchester City and Chelsea in the pecking order to win the Premier League in the upcoming season.
Both Pep Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel are constantly looking to improve their squad for the upcoming season. City have already broken the British record to sign former Aston Villa and England star Jack Grealish. Chelsea, in turn, are already on the move to sign Romelu Lukaku.
United have also invested a lot of funds to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. Both the players will increase the quality of the team and will give them more options in both attack and defence for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Despite the two signings, Kean feels that one or two more players are needed to address the weaknesses present at Old Trafford. Sharing his opinion on the transfers made this season, former Ireland international told ITV Sport,
“Two very good signings, particularly Varane with his experience with the problem at the back. Sancho, a young talented player who did well in Germany.
“I still think what City have done and Chelsea with Lukaku, United still need one or two into the group to really challenge.”
The Red Devils are in the market to sign a few more players, Solskjaer is keen to sign a midfield reinforcement and will also look to add more depth in right-back position.
Manchester United have been in the market to sign a new right-back, and they have been linked with Atletico Madrid‘s Kieran Trippier. The former Tottenham Hotspur man joined Los Rojiblancos in 2019 and guided Diego Simeone’s men to the La Liga title last season. His ability to drill in inch-perfect crosses makes him a top priority for United, who are looking to add him to increase more competition for Aaron Wan Bissaka.
Apart from Trippier, United have also been linked with Villareal and Spain international defender Pau Torres. But with the Red Devils signing Varane, speculations of the Spaniard coming to United are going to die down soon.
Solskjaer is also keen to sign a new midfielder as they are unsure about Paul Pogba’s commitment to the club on a long term basis. Hence, the speculations have started linking Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga to Old Trafford.
Camavinga is considered one of the brightest young midfielders in Europe, and joining Manchester United will see the team bolster their midfield for the upcoming season as they look to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea for the Premier League title.
Manchester United have also weighed their chances to sign Lille star midfielder Renato Sanches. United were among the clubs who were interested in the Portugal international after his exceptional performances at the Euros 2020. The Red Devils were interested in the 23-year-old midfielder when he had a breakthrough season at SL Benfica and later played a pivotal role in Portugal’s 2016 Euro triumph.
United were also linked with Wolves star Ruben Neves and Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma. Both the players have been in the Premier League for some years now and have proven themselves to a great extent. Neves will provide them that control in midfield whereas Bissouma will hand them with more muscle and defensive stability in the middle of the park.
