The Belgian is edging closer to a return to Chelsea, although it might not be on the terms which the Blues had hoped for. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Serie A outfit has rejected Chelsea’s initial offer, but soon, the two clubs should reach an agreement.
Di Marzio reports that Chelsea are preparing two final offers to present to Inter Milan. The first offer is of 105 million euros plus Davide Zappacosta, while the second involves the Blues paying Inter a straight fee of around 115 million. Inter are expected to reject the first bid as they prefer to be paid fully in cash which, in turn, they can spend on their shortlisted targets.
As for a timeframe regarding the deal, The Blue hope to conclude the move over the weekend, several reports confirm. Meanwhile, Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law reports that the two clubs are now in dialogue regarding Lukaku, with all parties trying to reach a complete agreement in the next few days. Should that happen, the striker will be available to play for Thomas Tuchel’s side in the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal, which will take place on August 11.
A decade has elapsed since Chelsea signed Lukaku originally from RSC Anderlecht for 18 million euros. Then a teenager, Lukaku made eight appearances in his first season at the club before signing on loan for West Bromwich Albion a year later. The Belgian enjoyed a terrific loan spell at the Hawthorns as he scored 17 goals in 35 appearances, including a hat-trick against Manchester United.
Lukaku spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Everton and was sold to the Toffees a year later. He enjoyed three more successful years at Goodison Park before signing for Manchester United in 2017. Subsequently, he left for Inter in 2019 and was crowned the champion of Italy two years later.
