Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Eoin Morgan has confirmed his participation for the second half of the IPL which will be played in the UAE. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals star batsman Jos Buttler is unlikely to be available due to the birth of his second child.
The second half of the Indian Premier League 2021 is all set to kickstart in the United Arab Emirates on the 19th of September. The availability of the overseas players was going to be a big challenge and the England players, in particular, were in doubt.
England were supposed to travel to Bangladesh in September-October later this year for three ODIs and three T20Is ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. However, that has now been postponed to March 2023 and that has presented the opportunity for the England players to participate in the second half of the Indian T20 extravaganza.
Skipper of the KKR franchise Eoin Morgan confirmed his participation for the remaining half of the IPL that starts in mid-September. He said that it would be a completely personal choice of the players if they want to play in the IPL or take a break.
“It’s a complete individual decision. I think it was a win-win either way. If we went to Bangladesh, we’d play in conditions that are foreign to us. If some guys go to the IPL, they’ll play in similar conditions [to the World Cup] or for guys that need a rest, they take a rest,”
Morgan was quoted saying.
Jos Buttler, one of the crucial players for the Rajasthan Royals, is uncertain about his availability. Buttler and his wife are expecting the birth of their second child in early September; hence, he might have to stay back at home.
“I don’t know, to be honest. My family life is due to change – we’ve got a second child due to be born in early September. So, unless I want to get away from a few sleepless nights, I might have to be at home,”
Buttler stated while speaking to Sky Sports.
