England international and skipper Harry Kane, who guided the Three Lions to the finals of the Euros 2020, has not returned to Tottenham Hotspur following a short vacation. Kane has not shown up for Tottenham’s pre-season training amid speculations of him leaving the club this summer.
According to a report in Sky Sports, the England skipper wanted to move out of the club this summer, and clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United were interested in the 28-year-old striker.
City coughed up a £100million bid for Kane. However, Spurs rejected the massive offer as they value the marksman at £120million or higher. The Lillywhites are eager to tie him down to a new contract as they look to rebuild the team with their new manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, at the helm.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy accepted that Kane is frustrated with the lack of silverware won by the club. But he also admitted that a move away from Spurs could be difficult for the 28-year-old.
There are rumours that Manchester City are still looking to roped in Kane this summer. Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak claimed that the Cityzens will be more aggressive in the transfer market after their Champions League final loss against Chelsea last season.
Pep Guardiola is also keen to bring in a couple of reinforcements. The primary requirement for the reigning Premier League champion is to find a top-quality centre forward who can replace their legend, Sergio Aguero. The Argentine striker is the club’s highest goalscorer and their most iconic player in Premier League history. The 33-year-old striker joined FC Barcelona after his contract expired at Manchester.
Therefore the club has identified English marksman, Harry Kane as their primary target. The Spurs forward ended the last season with the Premier League ‘Golden Boot’ after netting 23 goals in a very underwhelming season for the Lillywhites.
Kane continued his excellent form at the European Championships as he led Gareth Southgate’s men by netting four goals in the Three Lions’ journey till the finals. Although they lost the finals against Italy, Kane had a great influence in a young England squad who only lost the title after losing on penalties.
Coming back to his contract situation, the coming week is very crucial for Kane as it will decide his future, says transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. It will be interesting to see whether he joins Manchester City or remains at Tottenham for the upcoming season and beyond.
