According to reports, Manchester United have readied a three-man list of midfielders who can replace Paul Pogba, should the Frenchman join PSG. The midfielder is in the last year of his contract and is yet to sign a new contract.
The 28-year-old, who spent his formative years at Manchester, rejoined the Red Devils in 2016 for a club-record fee of £89.3 million plus add-ons. Since then, his relationship with the club has been a love-hate one.
Pogba has played 199 matches for United and has scored 38 goals. In his five year spell at United, he has won two trophies – one Europa League and an EFL Cup. Rumours of him leaving the club surfaces in every transfer window, but now that his contract is about to run down its length, United might have to start looking at alternatives.
It was reported that Pogba has rejected a contract extension which would pay him £350,000 per week. There is no shortage of suitors for the FIFA World Cup winning midfielder, but Paris Saint-Germain is looking most likely to be his next decision.
Previously, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked about the Paul Pogba issue, he spoke on his relationship with the Frenchman, but did not comment on the contract negotiations.
“Paul knows what we feel about it and I’ve enjoyed my time working with him and hopefully we can work together. The talks between the club and Paul’s representatives, I’m not in the detail of every single one of them. I’ve got nothing to say about that. Let’s see what happens,” Solskjaer told the Manchester United website.
“There’s always speculation about Paul and clubs being interested, and we’ve seen Paul at his best. The talks are ongoing between Paul’s representatives and the club representatives,” he further added.
Saul Niguez’s representative to land in England on Monday
Representatives of Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez, who happens to be one of three names on United’s list, are expected to land in England on Monday, 2nd August, per reports in Mirror.
The 2020/21 La Liga winner with Atletico Madrid is looking for a move to a Premier League club, and it is being touted that the Spanish club will accept a bid in the region of £40m.
