AC Milan’s squad strengthening ahead of their return to the UEFA Champions League continues with the signing of Olivier Giroud. Meanwhile, Spain U21 international Brahim Diaz is expected to return on loan from Real Madrid for two years.
AC Milan director Paolo Maldini has confirmed the signing of France international from Chelsea. The striker, who recently committed himself to another year at Stamford Bridge, will instead sign for the Rossoneri on a two-year deal, believed to be worth one million euro plus another million in add-ons.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Serie A 2021/22 calendar. Maldini confirmed that Giroud will be arriving in Milan soon to complete the formalities.
Meanwhile, AC Milan have also agreed on a deal with Real Madrid to sign youngster Brahim Diaz on loan. Diaz, who joined Real Madrid from Manchester City, spent last season on loan in Milan and made 39 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals. The 21-year-old also made his international debut for Spain against Lithuania and scored in the ensuing 4-0 rout.
Diaz is expected to return to Milan on loan for another two years, but the club does not hold an option to buy him outright at the end of the deal. Furthermore, AC Milan will continue to pay Diaz’s full salary during his time at the San Siro, and the player is expected to wear the number 10 shirt on his return.
Giroud and Diaz will be Milan’s fourth and fifth signings of the summer, respectively. The club signed Mike Maignan early in the window to replace the outgoing Gianluigi Donnarumma. They also converted Fikayo Tomori and Sandro Tonali’s loans into permanent moves for a combined total of 35.5 million euros.
