Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has agreed to make a biopic on his life. The film will be shot in Hindi and there are reports that Ranbir Kapoor may be in line to play Ganguly’s character.
Sourav Ganguly took over the captaincy reins when Indian cricket was in turmoil. Not only did India pass through a dark phase but the side also played some outstanding cricket under Ganguly’s captaincy. The Kolkata-born cricketer was consistent with the bat as well and was a vital cog in both the Test and ODI line-ups for more than a decade.
Ganguly captained the country in 146 One-dayers and 49 Test matches. He scored 7212 runs at an average of 42.17 (16 hundreds and 35 fifties) in Test cricket and got 11,363 runs at an average of 41.02 (22 hundreds and 72 fifties) in ODI cricket.
Thus, there is absolutely no doubt that Ganguly is one of the greatest Indian captains to have ever stepped foot on a cricket field and he is an icon. He is currently the President of the Board of Cricket Control in India, and he has also served as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal from 2015-2019.
Now, his journey as a young budding cricketer, his international career and his life as a cricket administer is all set to be out in the public in the form of a biopic. The former Indian captain confirmed the news of him agreeing to make his biopic. However, he didn’t reveal any other information.
“Yes, I agreed with the biography. It’s in Hindi, but I can’t say the director’s name right now. It will take a few more days to get everything in place,”
Ganguly was quoted saying as he confirmed the news of his biopic.
According to reports, it is learnt that Ranbir Kapoor is set to play Ganguly’s role in the biopic. Moreover, the production has a budget of around INR 200-250 crore. The release date is yet to be confirmed.
