The Brazilian-born midfielder has been pivotal for both Chelsea and Italy this season, and hence a lot of clubs are interested in the 29-year-old. His agent has claimed that Serie A giants Juventus are also interested in the Italian.
In the past, Jorginho has revealed his interest in returning back to the Serie A. However things have changed a lot in the last few years at Stamford Bridge. But with Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at the club, a lot of things have settled down at the West London outfit. The German tactician has guided the Blues to the Champions League title, and now Jorginho is a lot more settled at Chelsea.
However, the transfer speculations have fired up in the recent week as the Italian guided the Azzurri’s to their second European Championships, which has forced Santos to talk up Juventus‘ interest in his client.
Speaking to Calciomercato, Joao Santos has claimed that the Italian giants are after the crafty midfielder.
“I confirm it, these interests have arrived.
“Of course, at 29 he can do very well in all the top European clubs and many are interested in him.”
he said.
Santos also expects his client to honour the contract at Chelsea till 2023. He has cleared his stance that he is a very important part of Tuchel’s plans. The German tactician understands Jorginho’s importance at the base of this Chelsea midfield and is hoping to improve on last season’s Champions League win from last season.
“He has a two-year contract, and it’s all in the hands of the club. There is the World Club Championship, there is the European Super Cup.
“For a footballer, these are important goals. But, the transfer market is always the transfer market and if a major club comes forward seriously with Chelsea then we will evaluate.
“At the moment, Jorginho will play it at Chelsea next season.”
Santos added.
Jorginho was pivotal to Roberto Mancini’s Italy in their Euro triumph. He has been immaculate with his presence and passing at the base of the midfield. His defensive work rate has kept the Azzurri safe throughout the tournament as he covered the most distance (86kms) in the entire Euros.
The 29-year-old has also shown his maturity as a player as he stepped up to take the fifth and deciding spot-kick against Spain in the semifinals. He dispatched the spot-kick and sent the Italians to the finals. Before the penalties, he dropped a masterclass against the Spaniards in the semifinals.
He followed that tradition in the final against England as well. Although the start was not that great, Jorginho caught up well after the first half-hour. In the second half, the Italians were firmly controlling the game, and a lot of credit goes to him for gaining the stronghold. While Jordan Pickford outwitted him in the penalty shootout, people will mostly remember his daunting presence at the base of the midfield.
