The Blaugrana’s financial hole only seems to get deeper as their heavy wage bill has meant that they cannot register any new signings despite already having secured the signatures of Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero and Emerson Royal.
Antoine Griezmann was considered to be an ‘untouchable’ at the start of the summer window, but that seems to have changed. Despite putting up a series of impressive displays in 2021, the Frenchman could be on his way out of the club. As it stands, Griezmann earns the most in Barcelona, and selling him could reduce the club’s wage bill by a massive margin.
Four Four Two understands that Barcelona have offered the Frenchman to Chelsea, who are said to hunt for a striker this summer. Timo Werner’s struggles in the last season cost the Blues few wins in the Premier League, and signing a proper finisher could be pivotal to Chelsea’s challenge to Manchester City for the Premier League title.
Thomas Tuchel, however, is likely to prefer signing an explosive prospect in Erling Haaland over signing Griezmann this summer. Erling Haaland, 20, has been linked with a move from the Signal Iduna Park this summer, and Chelsea are said to be one of the favorites to land him.
Time is running out for Barcelona, who will be eager to launch their new signings in the pre-seasons and finalize the extension of Lionel Messi, who is also due to be registered with La Liga, following the expiry of his previous contract.
It is understood that an agreement has been reached between the club and Messi, and now the club must now take care of other things if they are to announce the extension of their best player.
