England Women named a 14-person squad for the T20I series that follows the ODIs against India. Danni Wyatt and Mady Villiers return to the side, both of whom last featured in New Zealand earlier this year. Meanwhile, Kate Cross and Lauren Winfield-Hill missed out and they will return to play domestic cricket.
Both Wyatt and Villiers last played in New Zealand. Wyatt’s form was dismal, where she scored 33 runs in three ODIs and 45 runs in three T20Is. Hence, she was left out of the one-off Test match and the ODI series. Meanwhile, Villiers did well in the T20I series, picking up four wickets in three games while conceding runs at an economy rate of 6.83.
However, Wyatt regained form in domestic cricket. She smacked three half-centuries in four games in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy (50-over tournament) and made 206 runs in four innings. She also made 45 in the Southern Vipers’ opening game of the Charlotte Edwards Cup (T20 competition).
Kate Cross and Lauren Winfield-Hill have missed the cut and will return to domestic cricket. Cross will play for the Thunder, while Winfield-Hill will feature for the Northern Diamonds over the weekend in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
The multi-format series against India currently stands at 6-4 in favour of England. The one-off Test match was drawn while England won the ODI series 2-1. However, England Women’s head coach Lisa Keightley said that they have played some good cricket but wants her side to be ruthless and hit the ground running from the start of the T20I series.
“We’ve played some good cricket across both the Test and ODIs and we’ve named a strong squad for the IT20 series. It’s 6-4 in the multi-format series and we’re pushing hard to win.
We probably weren’t quite at our best in the third ODI so I’d like us to hit the ground running in the first IT20 and be ruthless,”
England Women’s head coach Lisa Keightley was quoted saying.
