The upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is all set to be moved to the UAE. The tournament will kick off on October 17 with the first round and the Super 12 starts on October 24. The final will be played on October 14.
The 2021 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is all set to kick off on October 17. With the COVID-19 situation pretty grim all over India, the mega event has been moved to the United Arab Emirates. The final of this 16-team world event is scheduled to be played on November 14.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI is yet to write to the ICC but the planning has already started. The first round of matches that sees eight teams competing for four spots in the Super 12 will occur in Oman and UAE.
These eight teams have been split into two groups and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 12. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman and Papua New Guinea are the eight teams that will play the first round.
The Super 12, which comprises of two groups, will see a total of 30 games being played, and this stage of the tournament will start on October 24. All 30 matches of the Super 12 stage are scheduled to be played in three venues in the UAE – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
On June 1, the ICC gave the BCCI an additional month to decide whether India would be hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup later this year. The COVID-19 situation in India has been at its worst and the second wave also caused the postponement of the IPL 2021. The season, which will now be completed in the UAE just before the commencement of the T20 World Cup.
Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will be the likely venues for the IPL, which might start on September 19, and the final is likely to be played on October 15.
