United have been linked to Pau Torres in the recent past, and the Red Devils are said to be working on a deal to sign the Spaniard this summer.
Give Me Sport understands that Manchester United are working on a deal to sign the £51.4 million-rated defender this summer, with the Spanish outfit said to be ready to accept a player plus cash deal as well. Villarreal, though, would prefer an only cash deal for the 24-year-old.
Pau Torres is not the only centre-back that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. Raphael Varane of Real Madrid is also said to be on the radar of the former Premier League champions, but the £80 million asking fee put forward by Los Blancos is proving to be a stumbling block for the Red Devils.
Varane’s former teammate and skipper, Sergio Ramos, has also been linked with a move to United this summer, but his preference is said to be with PSG as the former Ligue 1 champions are likely to fulfil Ramos’s wage demands which are said to be in the range of £16 million per year.
Man United are also said to be keeping a close eye on Atalanta’s central defender in Cristian Romero, who was adjudged as the best defender of Serie A last season. The Argentine is currently in the middle of a two-year loan spell from Juventus.
With United said to be extremely close to signing their long-term target in Jadon Sancho for a reported fee of around £86 million, United would be aware that they cannot splash any more cash this summer, given the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. For now, the summer window is officially up and running, but it is only likely to kick off post the completion of Euro 2020 next month.
