The BCCI has come forward to help India’s Olympic-bound athletes and they have donated a whopping amount of INR 10 crore which the Apex Council has sanctioned. A senior BCCI official said that the funds will be used for the preparation and others contingency purposes.
“Yes, BCCI will be helping out the Olympic contingent. An amount of Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned by the Apex Council. It (fund) will be used for the preparation and other contingency purpose of our elite athletes who have qualified for the Tokyo Games.
The modalities of the payment will be finalised after talking to Sports ministry and Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The BCCI has always believed in helping in the development of Olympic Sports and this is not the first time that a big amount is being donated,”
a senior BCCI official was quoted saying to PTI.
This isn’t the first time that BCCI has donated such a large sum of money. They donated INR 20 crore to the CRPF and the various sectors of the Indian Army back in 2019. It was the amount sanctioned for the opening ceremony, and the entire sum was donated.
The Indian cricket board also donated INR 51 crore last year at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. They donated INR 51 crore towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund in India’s fight against the deadly coronavirus.
