Real Madrid’s defensive stalwart Raphael Varane, who is now guiding France at the Euros, has been a top priority for Manchester United as the Red Devils are in search of a centre back this summer. The news is very positive for United as the player’s agent prepares for a meeting with the club.
Varane, who has been a regular alongside Sergio Ramos at Real, is all set to leave the club this summer. Although the decision is not yet final, there are high chances as he only has one year left in his contract. The 28-year-old has developed into one of the world’s best at his position. Despite all of that, he may not play for Los Blancos again.
Varane’s talks of a contract extension with club president Florentino Perez have not been fruitful. It is being reported that the club offered him a two-year contract which the Frenchman rejected. However, Varane has not commented on this as well, keeping his focus on the Euros. Some reports suggest that the French defender was not happy that Perez held contractual talks with Luka Modric, Lucas Vazquez and Sergio Ramos ahead of him. Also considering the club’s financial constraints, there is no increase in his wages, which can also be a reason for departure.
Varane has been a phenom in defence for Los Blancos over the years, winning three La Liga title and four Champions League titles. He is someone who is good with the ball at his feet and can also read the game really well. His aerial presence and ability to lead a backline makes him a complete defender.
it will be a massive blow for Los Blancos to lose another one of the starting centre backs. They have already ended their association with former club captain Sergio Ramos and with Varane also leaving, Real Madrid will be desperately looking to bring in some defensive reinforcements.
While a move away to United can be exciting for the Frenchman but for that the Red Devils will have to agree to Real’s asking price of more than £70m. There are high chances that United may lose interest in Varane because of Real’s lofty asking fee. Also, a report in ESPN suggests that United are not looking to sign Ramos either. So now it remains to be seen where Varane exactly ends up after the Euros.
