Brazil continued their winning start to the Copa America 2021 by beating Peru 4-0 in their second group game. Neymar added another goal to his tally while Richarlison opened his account. Elsewhere, a ten-man Colombia held Venezuela to a 0-0 draw.
Both the Brazilian fullbacks combined to score the opening goal of the match. Juventus’ Danilo put the ball into a dangerous area from the right, which was turned in by Alex Sandro. Fabinho then went close with a long-range effort, while at the other end, Danilo chested away Yoshimar Yotun’s lob away from danger after the Peruvian midfielder beat Ederson with his strike. Sandro squandered a great opportunity to double Brazil’s lead before the end of the first period. The left-back skied his shot off target after receiving a pass from Neymar.
Brazil did get the insurance goal after the hour mark, courtesy of their talisman. The attacker collected the ball outside the box, created space for himself, and fired a low shot past the goalkeeper. Peru had the chance to bridge the gap, but Alex Valera somehow scuffed his shot with the goal gaping, following a corner. Substitute Everon Ribeiro scored Brazil’s third in the 89th minute from close range before Richarlison bundled home the fourth in stoppage time.
Elsewhere, ninety minutes could not separate Colombia and Venezuela, as both teams played out a 0-0 draw. Colombia’s Luis Diaz even saw a late red card, but it came too late to impact the match significantly. After the latest round of matches, Brazil remained on top of group A with six points out of six. Colombia are second with four.
