Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who has recently joined Italian outfit AS Roma, has stated that Mount must thank his former coach Frank Lampard for helping him become the player he is today.
“He has to thank Frank because even with results not being wonderful he was always keeping faith in that kid. He gave him incredible conditions to develop. Mount is an attack-minded player, a creative player, but he has the tactical discipline,”
said Mourinho, in an exclusive interview with The Times.
The 22-year-old had a vital role to play in the final against Manchester City. It was his assist that led to the Kai Havertz goal, which ultimately became the deciding factor in the match. Besides that, he also caused the City defence a lot of trouble and was one of the reasons behind Chelsea’s dominance in the midfield.
In only his second season with Chelsea’s senior team, the English midfielder has established himself as a fans’ favourite. He has won the Chelsea player of the season award and was also adjudged the best academy graduate of the season in the Premier League.
Mourinho backs England to win Euro
Though one section of English fans have expressed their dissent over head coach Gareth Southgate’s team selection, Mourinho has backed the Three Lions to win the Euros.
“I believe England can win it. The feeling is that the group is friendly. They will accept being the first choice, second choice. When you are in the national team, if your job is to carry the water bottles, carry the water bottles and be happy to do it. They have a good group,”
the AS Roma manager opined.
England are placed in Group D in the competition, alongside Croatia, Czech Republic and Scotland. They will begin their campaign on 13th June with a game against Croatia and will play all of their group stage matches at Wembley.
