The Blues have been linked with a move for their former striker, but the player himself has poured cold water over the speculation.
Lukaku has ended speculation regarding a transfer to former club Chelsea, by committing his future to Internazionale – at least for now. The Belgian forward has been linked with a move to London, links which only grew stronger after the shocking exit of Antonio Conte. However, the player revealed in a recent interview that he has had positive talks with soon-to-be Inter manager Simone Inzaghi, and that he feels good in Italy.
“Yes, I am staying. I’ve already had contact with the man who will become our new manager.
Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet. It was a very positive conversation.
There’s also the challenge of [winning the title] again. I feel good at Inter.”
the forward told the Belgian TV station, VTM.
Lukaku has been a hit at Inter Milan, scoring 64 times in nearly 100 matches for the Italian giants. He scored 23 goals in his debut season at the club after signing for them from Manchester United. Lukaku improved his league goals tally by one the subsequent year, as Inter reclaimed the Italian crown after a decade in Juventus’ shadow. The Belgian forward was named the league’s most valuable player for his performances this term.
The 28-year-old striker has a history with Chelsea, though. The Blues spotted him first at Anderlecht and swiftly completed a deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Viewed by many as the heir to Didier Drogba, Lukaku never got the chance to play consistently for the Chelsea first-team. Instead, the forward spent years out on loan at West Bromwich Albion and later, Everton.
He signed for Everton from Chelsea after a successful loan spell before moving on to Manchester United a few years later. Lukaku enjoyed success at United under Jose Mourinho but was shunned, and later, sold by his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
