The BCB president Nazmul Hassan disclosed that it’s impossible for the board to grant No Objection Certificates to Shakib Al Hassan (KKR) and Mustafizur Rahman (RR) to feature in the remainder of the IPL 2021 season in September-October.
“It is almost impossible to provide NOC (for IPL) considering our international commitments. I don’t see any chance of giving it (NOC) to them. We have the (T20) World Cup coming up and now every match is important,”
Nazmul told Ekattor TV, a local Bengali news channel.
Bangladesh have three limited-overs series scheduled in the same window against Australia, New Zealand and England. Shakib played three matches for KKR but couldn’t make any impact and was dropped soon. Mustafizur played all seven matches for the Royals in their injury-ridden campaign and picked 8 wickets. Both are vital cogs in Bangladesh limited-overs sides.
Apart from Bangladesh, the players from other countries are likely to be unavailable for the second phase of IPL 2021. According to a report in Sydney Morning Herald, Australian pacer Pat Cummins is unlikely to return to the IPL for the second leg. While it is still not confirmed, the decision could be taken, keeping his workload in mind. Several other Australia players are likely to take the same route considering the bio-bubble fatigue.
England and Wales Cricket Board has already made it clear that they won’t allow their players to feature in IPL 2021, with its second leg so close to the T20 World Cup. With more boards unwilling to release their players for the tournament, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the BCCI to conduct the remainder of the IPL 2021.
