Chelsea allowed the Brazilian to leave the club last summer on a free transfer, following which he signed for their rivals Arsenal. However, a far from a productive season at the Emirates could push him back to Chelsea.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Willian is keen on a return to Chelsea, less than a year after leaving them for Arsenal. The Brazilian was released by the Blues after a contract deadlock, and the Gunners, subsequently, signed him on a free transfer. However, he is expected to leave the Emirates after just one year into his three-year deal. The Player, as the report suggests, is interested in returning to his former club.
Willian has had an underwhelming season at Arsenal, despite starting brightly with a handful of assists on matchday one. However, the Brazilian scored only once in the league – a goal that came in the latter stages of the competition. He failed to score in any other competition, leaving him with the dismal record of one goal from 37 appearances.
An earlier report from Sky Sports revealed that Willian could be one of the Arsenal players allowed to leave this summer with the club keen on a rebuild. He already said his farewells to compatriot, and former teammate, David Luiz, who was released by the Gunners upon the conclusion of the season. Arsenal have also allowed Mesut Ozil, Sead Kolasinac, Shkodran Mustafi, and Sokratis Papastathopolous to leave similarly over the past six months.
The report claims that should Willian leave Arsenal. He will generate plenty of interest from teams all over the globe. A return to Chelsea is top on his list, although there has been no indication from the club in question over a potential deal.
Willian initially signed for Chelsea in 2013 and enjoyed a prolonged, successful spell at the club. He won the Premier League with them twice, as well as two Europa League titles, and was named as the club’s Player of the Season in 2016.
