Kolkata Knight Riders’ batsman Shubman Gill has found the support from David Hussey after an underwhelming season performance in IPL 2021.
David Hussey, the chief mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders has backed Shubman Gill to turn things around after a string of failures in the early part of IPL 2021. In five matches so far, Gill has scored 15, 33, 21, 0, 11 at a below par strike rate of 121. Gill has failed to give KKR the starts they need at the top of the order and as a result, the team has often found itself in losing positions.
KKR had a disappointing day against Rajasthan Royals with the bat. KKR openers were unable to counter RR bowlers’ continuous pace changeups, scoring only 25 runs in the powerplay. KKR could only manage to put up 133 on the board. Gill scored 11 runs off 19 balls in the innings and came under scrutiny once again. But David Hussey has thrown his weight behind Gill to find the form.
One thing I do know is that he took the Test match arena by storm in Australia. The way he works on his game in the nets, he’s very specific. He’s got a great work ethic and I reckon all I can say is probably form will come and go, but class is always permanent. He is one class individual off the field but also an exceptionally talented player on the field. Mark my words he’ll be one of the highest-scoring individuals by the end of the tournament. He’s an absolute class act,
Hussey said.
Shubman Gill had announced himself in International Test cricket in a remarkable fashion in Australia where he scored 259 runs at an average of 51.8, including a match-defining 91-run knock at the Gabba. But since the Australia tour, Gill has been going through a rough patch with the bat.
After losing four matches on the trot, KKR are likely to make some changes to their playing XI. David Hussey has hinted at New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson finally getting an opportunity in this season.
