Saba Karim has been roped in by the Delhi Capitals as the head of talent search. The franchise took to Twitter to make the official announcement while the former India wicket-keeper said he was very excited to start his new role as the talent scout.
Delhi Capitals have decided to rope in Saba Karim as their head of talent search. The former India wicket-keeper batsman was picked as the Indian national selector back in 2012. He was also appointed as the General Manager of Cricket Operations for the Board of Control for Cricket in India back in December 2017. He stepped down from his post in July last year.
Karim represented India in 34 ODIs and one Test match. He made his ODI debut in 1997 and Test debut (and only Test) in 2000. He scored 362 runs at an average of 15.73 in the 50-over format. He played domestic cricket for nearly two decades before a freak eye injury brought an end to his cricketing career.
Delhi Capitals took to Twitter to announce their new recruitment and welcome Karim into the support staff.
The DC support staff already boasts of an elite list, and Karim is not added to that list. He joins Ricky Ponting (head coach), Mohammed Kaif (assistant coach), Pravin Amre (assistant coach), Ajay Ratra (assistant coach) and James Hopes (fast bowling coach).
The 53-year-old was very excited to join the 2020 runners-up and start his new role as talent scout.
“I am very excited to begin my role as Talent Scout for the Delhi Capitals. The IPL has, over the years, unearthed so much talent, and continues to produce world-class action. Delhi Capitals is an exciting team to work with, and I am looking forward to helping them grow further,”
Karim was quoted saying by Delhi Capitals’ official website.
Delhi Capitals have had a splendid start to the 2021 season. They are currently sitting at the top of the points table with six wins from eight matches.
