Much of Chelsea’s late upturn in form can be attributed to Thomas Tuchel. The German’s arrival at the club in January was a catalyst for their season, which looked to be heading towards mediocrity at one point. He is set to be aptly rewarded for his efforts if reports are to be believed.
According to a report by Daily Mail, the Blues are set to reward the German with a renewed deal after he led them to the FA Cup and the Champions League finals. His arrival at Stamford Bridge midway through the season had a positive effect on the Blues, who now find themselves 180 minutes away from two trophies. Meanwhile, they are also among the favorites to finish in the top four, thereby securing a Champions League spot for the subsequent season. This scenario looked unlikely in January, with the team languishing in ninth.
Tuchel signed an 18-month deal at Chelsea initially, which allowed him to stay on as the head coach until the end of next season. The report claims there were clauses in the original deal that would’ve entitled the German to an extension, provided he hit some key targets. However, the club now wants to tie him down on an even longer contract. They are said to be proposing an offer of two years plus the option of a third.
Meanwhile, Tuchel is not the only individual currently in the ‘renewable’ column for Chelsea. The Blues are also keen to extend the contract of veteran defender Thiago Silva, who signed last summer on a free transfer. Silva’s initial contract runs until this summer, although there is an option of extending it for 12 months.
Moreover, Chelsea are also interested in tying down both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho. The pair has become increasingly important for the team under Tuchel and played a starring role in their recent win over Real Madrid in the Champions League final. Fabrizio Romano claims that the club will begin negotiations with the representatives of both the players over the next few months. Both players have a contract until 2023 with Chelsea.
