A few of South Africa’s best T20 players, including AB de Villiers, might return to the South African national side for the upcoming series against West Indies, which will be played before the T20 World Cup.
CSA Team Director Graeme Smith hinted at the possibility of Mr. 360 AB de Villiers’ grand return to international cricket. Moreover, Cricket South Africa announced that South Africa will be touring West Indies in June for a series in the Caribbean.
The Proteas will play 2 Test matches and 5 T20 Internationals in the Caribbean. The venues where the games will be played are yet to be finalized. The South African team will then directly travel to Ireland, where they will play a T20 and ODI series, which will take place from July 1 to July 25. They are then expected to tour Sri Lanka and India before the T20 World Cup in October.
Graeme Smith claimed that a few of South Africa’s best T20 players can return to the national side ahead of the T20 World Cup. The former South African skipper claimed that players like Chris Morris and Imran Tahir, who do not have national contracts, would always be available for selection as they have tons of experience, which will benefit the side greatly.
“We have seen the success the West Indies has had in bringing back free agents. But there are many factors involved, including team dynamics. Our focus has always been on trying to get our best squad together for an extensive time.”
Smith said.
There have been innumerable speculations around the return of de Villiers in the national setup. The superstar batsman is still looking fit and has been in tremendous form for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL. However, Smith admitted that the case with ABD is slightly different from other players as Mr. 360 has retired from international cricket.
However, South Africa’s head coach Mark Boucher earlier revealed that he will discuss with AB de Villiers about a possible return to international cricket.
