Real Madrid has announced that forward Rodrygo will miss the upcoming El Clásico against Barcelona after sustaining an injury during the team’s UEFA Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund. The Brazilian forward was forced off in the 5-2 victory on Tuesday after suffering a thigh issue, which has now been diagnosed as a Biceps Femoris injury.
The 23-year-old has grown into a key figure in Real Madrid‘s attack, showcasing his versatility in various positions across the front line. In the match against Dortmund, he started and played with intensity, contributing to his side’s impressive comeback. However, in the 83rd minute, he pulled up with an apparent thigh strain while trying to keep the ball in play. That effort preceded Real Madrid’s third goal in the match, but Rodrygo‘s night ended shortly after as he was substituted just two minutes later. Scans have since revealed the extent of his injury, and Real Madrid confirmed that he will be sidelined for approximately 20 days.
This injury comes as a significant blow to Real Madrid ahead of their first El Clásico meeting of the season, which is set to take place on Saturday, October 26. With Rodrygo ruled out, manager Carlo Ancelotti may be forced to adjust his tactical setup. Last season, Ancelotti often relied on a formation featuring in-form forward Vinícius Jr alongside Kylian Mbappé, who joined the team this season, with Jude Bellingham supporting them from midfield. This lineup could be Ancelotti’s preferred option once again for the high-stakes clash against Barcelona.
Rodrygo‘s absence will be felt as the Brazilian has been a pivotal part of Los Blancos‘ attacking force this season, contributing both in La Liga and in European competitions. His creativity and ability to play across different roles in the final third have been crucial for Real Madrid.
In addition to Rodrygo‘s injury, concerns have emerged regarding Real Madrid‘s first-choice goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois. According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, the Belgian shot-stopper may be a doubt for the clash against Barcelona.
Courtois, who played the full 90 minutes against Borussia Dortmund, reportedly experienced discomfort following the match. There are fears that the 32-year-old may have re-aggravated a previous adductor injury, which had kept him out of action earlier in the season.
