Australian skipper Pat Cummins has recently given a heads-up to his squad regarding the attacking form of the young Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant ahead of the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy later this year.
Notably, Pant has made a phenomenal comeback in the Indian cricket team after his tragic car accident and since then has given magnificent performances in the T20 World Cup 2024, followed by the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, where the middle-order batter smashed a stellar century.
India will visit Australia for a five-match Test series as a part of the ongoing World Test Championship 2023 to 2025 cycle.
Following Pant‘s performances in the previous edition of the tournament on Australian soil, Cummins has issued a warning p to his squad regarding the youngster’s batting style which happens to be similar to the Australian cricketers, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh.
“Look, I think every team has one or two of those players who can take the game on. We have Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. I think with those guys, you know they’re going to be aggressive. You miss your area a little bit, and they can take the game on.”
Cummins said.
The pacer discussed that Rishabh Pant has the ability to influence the games, considering his track record in the recent past, and the Australian bowling unit needs to keep him quiet to control the flow of runs for the Indian cricket team.
“Someone like Rishabh Pant might play a reverse lap, and it’s an incredible shot. That’s just a part of who he is. We’ve become accustomed to it nowadays because some of those ridiculous shots are a bit more common. He is someone who has had a big influence on a couple of series. Got to try to keep him quiet.”
Cummins added.
Australia and India will lock horns for the first match of the Test series in Perth on November 22.
