Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni has been the heart and soul of the Chennai Super Kings franchise since the inception of the league back in 2008. However, will we all witness him in the yellow army camp for one final time in 2025? The former CSK captain, MS Dhoni, might have played his last and final game for the franchise in the IPL 2024 clash against RCB.
Even a rumour of such a thing happening would definitely send shockwaves through the cricketing fraternity, especially diehard CSK fans. The writing seems to be on the wall for the moment. The final moment when the CSK legend and former India captain retired from international cricket, you knew this day was going to come.
MS Dhoni‘s knee injury back in the IPL 2023 brought that far-looking future into close proximity, and handing the captaincy to CSK opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad basically sealed the fate. Yet there he was after every game, standing full of vigour as he defied age, injuries, and, most importantly, the expectations of the fans. It’s true that the 43-year-old legend still stands very strong and has the ambition to don the yellow jersey again, but things aren’t in his hands this time either.
According to the Cricbuzz report, MS Dhoni already had conversations with franchise owner N Srinivasan, and they have come to the final conclusion that the CSK legend’s participation in the IPL 2024 is set to depend upon the number of retentions that the BCCI will allow making the team ahead of the 2025 mega-auctions.
However, it seems that if he doesn’t play in the IPL 2025 edition, he will surely be present in the dugout as the mentor. MS Dhoni and CSK have become synonymous since 2008, and it does not seem like their bond is set to end anytime soon. The three-time ICC-winning captain role may change, but he will always be at the heart of the Chennai Super Kings.
