Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL title on Tuesday after defeting Gujarat Titans by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Titans scored 214/4 in their allotted 20 overs after being put in to bat first, thanks to a superb knock from Sai Sudharsan (96 off 47). In response, CSK chased down the revised target of 171 on the last ball of the innings, thanks to Ravindra Jadeja’s calm in the middle.
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra attributed CSK’s title victory to MS Dhoni’s Midas touch, which helped the Kings defeat GT. Gujarat had all of the tournament’s top performers on their team, including Orange Cap holder Shubman Gill and Purple Cap holder Mohammed Shami, but it was the MS Dhoni factor that sealed the victory, according to Chopra.
“Think about it, Orange Cap – Shubman Gill, the top three wicket-takers in the tournament are from Gujarat – Mohammad Shami, Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan, but who has the trophy? That’s the beauty of MS Dhoni and the Chennai franchise. He can touch mud and convert it into gold,”
Chopra said on his Youtube Channel.
Notably, Shubman Gill finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 890 runs, while Mohammed Shami won the Purple Cap for finishing as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 28 wickets. Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan, on the other hand, were the joint second-highest wicket takers with 27 wickets.
Chopra praised Mohit Sharma for bowling yorkers on the first four balls of the match’s final over, in which CSK needed 13 runs to win. He also referred to Ravindra Jadeja’s (15* off 6) cameo as “special,” which helped CSK cross the finish line.
“Mohit Sharma executed excellent yorkers off the first four balls of the final over but ten were required off the last two and they were scored. Ravindra Jadeja hits a straight six and then a four and won them the match. This was something special,”
he added.
Following their victory, CSK has tied Mumbai Indians for the most IPL titles won, with both teams holding five trophies.
