According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are interested in Jose Gaya. In the summer transfer window, the reigning La Liga champions hope to strengthen both of their full-back positions. The Valencia captain, 27, has emerged as a candidate for the left-back position.

During his professional career, Jose Gaya has established himself as one of the best full-backs in La Liga. The Spanish international is a one-club man, having spent his entire career with Valencia. And he has risen to prominence, becoming Los Che’s captain after Dani Parejo’s departure.

The 27-year-old has spent nearly a decade with Valencia’s first team, appearing in over 300 games. He has also contributed nine goals and 38 assists for Los Che. Meanwhile, Gaya’s rise has been noticed, with Real Madrid among his potential suitors.

According to the report, Real Madrid will look to strengthen both full-back positions. And, given Ferland Mendy’s inconsistency, signing a left-back is critical. Since his arrival in July 2019, the French defender has been Real Madrid’s first-choice left-back. However, his performance has dipped in recent years.

Mendy has also struggled with his fitness, and he is no longer a reliable performer for Real Madrid. Furthermore, David Alaba, Real Madrid’s backup to Mendy, has recently suffered a number of injuries. As a result, Real Madrid should invest in a left-back during the summer transfer window.

As a result, a few left-backs, including Ben Chilwell, have appeared on Real Madrid’s radar. In addition, Gaya is a possible target for the reigning La Liga champions. If Valencia does not escape the relegation zone by May, the 27-year-old will become an even more appealing prospect.

Meanwhile, Barcelona is interested in Gaya. And the Valencia captain will almost certainly be a highly sought-after player in the summer transfer window. So it will be interesting to see if a summer move happens.

Real Madrid return to La Liga after international break by hosting Real Vallodolid on April 2 before travelling to Catalonia to play Barca in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final second leg on April 5.
