T20 World Cup 2022 India Schedule
India are placed in a pretty challenging group for T20 World Cup 2022. Pakistan and South Africa are going to pose tough fights in front of a strong Indian team. Make no mistake, India were beaten by Pakistan in the T20 World Cup last year, and that brought curtains down on their World Cup campaign in that edition. Bangladesh have also proven themselves as tough competitors on many occasions and hence, they are going to make life difficult for India as well.

T20 World Cup 2022 Pakistan Schedule
Pakistan made it to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup last year, and they have also won it on one occasion previously. They beat India by 10 wickets in the same tournament last year and will be eager for a strong show in this contest once again. Facing South Africa isn’t going to be easy for them either, whereas Bangladesh have the ability to put up a strong fight as well.

T20 World Cup 2022 Australia Schedule
Australia are the reigning world Champions right now. They lifted the trophy last year by beating New Zealand in the final, and they are going to begin their campaign with a contest against their trans-tasman rivals once again. England and Afghanistan are the two other teams in their group, along with two other qualifying teams that are yet to be confirmed. While their contest with England and New Zealand are surely going to be close fights, Afghanistan shouldn’t be underestimated either. Their spin bowling attack is one of the best in the world, and they have a pretty experienced batting unit as well now.

T20 World Cup 2022 England Schedule
England hasn’t won this event for a long time now. The last and only time they won it was in 2009, and they will be desperate to bring this trophy home once again. But that isn’t going to be easy as they face strong teams like Australia and New Zealand, and dark horses Afghanistan, in the group stage. They have to go past all these hurdles successfully first to reach the knockout stages, and the odds of that happening are not too great.

T20 World Cup 2022 New Zealand Schedule
The Kiwis have never been recognized as a force to reckon with at the start of any ICC event, but they have proved everyone wrong and have made it to the knockout stages consistently over the years. Although they have fumbled in the final hurdle, their tenacity to prove themselves as one of the top teams is really commendable. They are placed in a very tough Group this time, though. Australia and England are already strong opponents. If that wasn’t enough, they have an unpredictable Afghanistan to deal with as well.

T20 World Cup 2022 Afghanistan Schedule
Afghanistan’s chances of making it to the knockouts seems very slim with teams like Australia, New Zealand and England in their group. But they won’t let anyone get past them with an easy win for sure. They have one of the best bowling attacks in the world and spinners who can bamboozle even the best batters in the world. Their batting is a bit unpredictable but they have some really talented players like Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Najibullah Zadran there as well. Global spin bowling sensation Rashid Khan is nothing less with the bat and he can also prove to be a handy customer for Afghanistan.

T20 World Cup 2022 South Africa Schedule
South Africa have undergone a revamp ever since legends like AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn retired. They performed well in the last edition and are expected to do even better this time. However, the Proteas will need to deal with the threat of strong teams like India and Pakistan in their group. Bangladesh, although they are ranked below the Proteas in the T20I rankings, can be a force to reckon with on their day as well. So, the Proteas will have their task cut out.

T20 World Cup 2022 Bangladesh Schedule
Bangladesh are placed in a group that consists of India, Pakistan and South Africa. Nobody is giving them a chance of making it to the semifinals when there are three stronger teams in the same group, but that’s where the Bangla Tigers have an advantage. They have plenty of experience and quality in their ranks and can take even Giants down on their day. The Tigers might not be perceived as one of the stronger teams in the tournament, but they can be expected to cause a few upsets.

Most Runs in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup History
Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene is the highest run-scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup with more than 1000 runs to his name at an average of just a shade under 40. He has a century and six fifties to his name as well. He has retired now and Chris Gayle is most probably not going to play this edition of the T20 World Cup. But Indian batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, or even David Warner, have a very good chance of rising to the top of that list.

Most Wickets in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup History
Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan holds the record for the most number of wickets taken in T20 World Cup history. He has claimed 41 wickets at an excellent average of 17.29 and it doesn’t look like he is going to retire any soon either. So, it looks like he is going to stay at the top and dominate that list for at least the next two T20 World Cups. Other than him, the list consists mostly of retired or inactive players in the top 10. Only Ravichandran Ashwin and Dwayne Bravo are still active, but they are 14 and 15 wickets behind Shakib’s tally respectively.

T20 World Cup Winners Over the years
India – 2007 T20 World Cup Winners
The inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup was played way back in 2007 in South Africa. A young Indian team, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, emerged out as the eventual champions after beating Pakistan in a thrilling finale. India posted 157/5 on the board, riding on Gautam Gambhir’s brilliant knock of 75. Pakistan, on the other hand, were bowled out for 152 in the end. Misbah-ul-Haq tried to keep them in the game right until the last over but was dismissed caught at fine leg while attempting a scoop off Joginder Sharma’s bowling.
Pakistan – 2009 T20 World Cup Winners
Pakistan lost the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup but they went all the way and claimed the trophy in 2009. The 2009 T20 World Cup was played in England and the Asian giants dominated throughout the competition. They faced Sri Lanka in the final and restricted them to a total of just 138/6 before chasing the target down with eight balls and eight wickets to spare. Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi was the star of the match as he claimed bowling figures of 1/20 in his four overs and then went on to score an unbeaten 54 to take them home.
England – 2010 T20 World Cup Winners
England won their first ever ICC trophy in 2010 when they beat Australia in the final to win the T20 World Cup. The tournament was held in the West Indies that year and England dominated the competition through and through. Australia posted 147/6 in the final, which was chased down pretty easily by England with seven wickets and three overs to spare. Craig Kieswetter was named as the Player of the Match for his superb knock of 63 at the top of the order.
West Indies – 2012 T20 World Cup Winners
This was the year when West Indies unleashed their full force in this format. They beat tournament hosts Sri Lanka in the final by 36 runs to lay their hand on their first ever T20 World cup trophy. It was Marlon Samuels who made the victory possible for the Caribbean team as he played a superb knock of 78 to power West Indies to a total of 137/6 in their 20 overs. That eventually turned out to be too much for Sri Lanka as they got bundled out for just 101.
Sri Lanka – 2014 T20 World Cup Winners
The Lankan team lost the opportunity to win the World Cup at home in 2012 but they went into the 2014 edition pretty determined and won the competition, which was held in Bangladesh, by beating India in the final. The Lankan bowlers restricted India to a paltry total of 130/4 first and then their batters chased the target down with six wickets and 13 balls remaining. The Indian bowlers had reduced Sri Lanka to 78/4 but Kumar Sangakkara’s unbeaten 52 ensured that they got over the line safely.
West Indies – 2016 T20 World Cup Winners
This was the year when West Indies won their second T20 World Cup title and thus became the most successful team in the history of the competition. It was Carlos Brathwaite’s magical cameo in the last over of the match that got a packed Eden Gardens crowd on their feet and thus powered West Indies to the title. England were ahead in the match right till the 19th over, until Brathwaite’s four consecutive sixes off Ben Stokes’ bowling turned things around completely.
Australia – 2021 T20 World Cup Winners
Australia, who have been the powerhouses in ODI cricket all these years, kept missing out on a T20 World Cup title. But their wait ended in 2021 when they won the tournament, which was held in the UAE and Oman. Australia met their trans-tasman rivals New Zealand in the final and produced a strong batting display, winning the match by eight wickets. It was Mitchell Marsh’s unbeaten 77 and David Warner’s 53 that helped Australia in chasing down a challenging target of 174 with ease.
