Warning issued to India players after BCCI notes Virat’s public yo-yo test result

Virat Kohli’s Instagram post published on Thursday with his yo-yo test passing score has ruffled the feathers within the office of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. According to Indian Express, the board’s top brass is understood to have taken offence to the modern-day stalwart making “confidential” information public.

The board considers Kohli’s post a leak of important information and knowledge of the fitness assertion process not meant to be known by the fans or the media on the outside and has therefore issued a warning to the entire senior team squad currently part of a six-day camp at the NCA.

As part of this NCA camp designed for fitness and skill work prior to the Asia Cup and 2023 World Cup, the team management led by coach Rahul Dravid, NCA coaches and physios conducted the yo-yo test for cricketers on Day 1.

Kohli unsurprisingly passed the challenging fitness standards examination. The cricketer then took to his official Instagram handle and made a story post featuring his bare-chested picture from the entire exercise. But the caption to the same created tension and trouble within the BCCI top brass as Kohli went on to declare that his yo-yo test passing score was “17.2”.

Indian cricketers are barred from sharing such details and information on the outside via their media statements or even in social media posts.

“Players have been informed verbally to avoid posting any confidential matter on social media platforms. They can post pictures while training but posting a score leads to breach of contract clause,”

a BCCI official privy to the developments was quoted as saying in the Indian Express report.

While no action was taken against the former India skipper for the breach, it is understood BCCI has verbally communicated with the player and the rest of the Indian team squad to not give away such confidential information to the fans.

“Players have been informed verbally to avoid posting any confidential matter on social media platforms. They can post pictures while training but posting a score leads to breach of contract clause,”

    the official added.

The yo-yo test was a major talking point at the height of Kohli’s all-format captaincy back in 2017-21. In his latest story post, the cricketer said he ”can’t control his happiness” at acquiring the desired mark in the process and revealed his exact score.
