Team India will begin a training camp in Alur on August 25 in preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup. Players presently in Ireland for a T20I series will arrive at the camp on the same day. The last Twenty20 International encounter against Ireland on August 23 had ended in a draw. Now, the complete squad will fly to India on August 24.
In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited 14 net bowlers to participate in the skill-based camp, a smart move aimed at saving bowling resources while giving batters with high-quality practise chances.
The whole coaching staff of Team India will be present during the camp, led by former captain and current head coach Rahul Dravid. The men’s senior selection committee, directed by Ajit Agarkar, will also be present during the camp.
However, the National Cricket Academy’s head VVS Laxman will not be taking part in the preparations at this time. The coaching staff, led by Rahul Dravid, had a breather during the recent T20I series in Ireland and will now resume their duties with the Asia Cup camp.
Later this year, the team’s emphasis will move to the next ODI series against Australia on home soil, followed by the ODI World Cup 2023.
This preparation camp is critical for the players coming from injury, notably KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who have been out of competitive cricket for a lengthy period of time. The camp will provide them the opportunity to rediscover their shape and rhythm.
While Rahul’s participation at the camp is doubtful owing to a recent injury, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar has informed that Iyer is totally healthy and has already played three 50-over matches at the NCA.
In addressing the significance of the camp ahead of the Asia Cup, skipper Rohit Sharma, speaking at a press conference following the release of the Asia Cup team, emphasised the tremendous opportunity it provides. He thanked everyone who helped him get back into the game after his injury hiatus.
As Team India meets to fine-tune their abilities and strategy for the next difficulties, cricket fans are looking forward to the insights and outcomes that will emerge from this vital pre-season camp.
