Ex-Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody has highlighted that the franchise’s one-dimensional batting lineup could be a point of worry and could be ‘exposed’ in the turning tracks in the ongoing IPL 2023.
Batting on the slow, turning track at Lucknow, SRH could only manage to get a trivial 121 runs on the scoreboard. Tom Moody, who guided the franchise to the league title in 2016, opined that the vast number of right-handers could expose the side going forward in the competition, especially in the turning tracks. Notably, Lucknow Super Giants outclassed SRH, courtesy of a clinical all-round performance by Krunal Pandya in Lucknow on Friday.
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo’s segment, ‘T20 Time Out’, Moody said:
“The thing that screams out to me is that they left the auction table knowing they had a team full of right-handers. They released a left-hander in Nicholas Pooran who hit the winning run [for Lucknow on Friday] and they brought someone who was 30% more expensive, who is a right-hander-Harry Brook, similar sort of impact player.”
Interestingly, all-rounder Washington Sundar was the lone only left-handed player to feature in the SRH Playing XI against LSG. The team management decided to drop Abhishek Sharma for Anmolpreet Singh as the LSG spinners dominated the rival batting lineup, with the likes of Krunal, Amit Mishra, and Ravi Bishnoi sharing six wickets between them.
The Aiden Markram-led side have lost their first two games in the season and will need to up the ante in a bid to turn around the fortunes in their favour. SRH, next head back home as they host Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday in their next fixture.
