Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar shed light on his views regarding the comparison between Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as a better player. Sachin and Virat, two of arguably India’s greatest batters ever, often comes in the minds of people as a question of who is the best amongst the two. The former is way ahead in terms of records even now, but Kohli is still an active player and has been breaking every possible record of Tendulkar for the last decade or so.
There has been constant chaos about who has been better amongst the two giants. Speaking to BOL News Akhtar too opened up on who he believes as the best between the two Indian batting geniuses. Tendulkar is the best batsman ever in the world according to the 47-year-old but as a captain Tendulkar is not amongst the best for Akhtar.
“See, I believe Sachin Tendulkar is the best batsman in the world. But as a captain, he was lost. He left the captaincy himself.”
The legendary fast bowler went on to speak about Kohli’s ability to win matches for India single handedly.
“You also need to see that almost 40 centuries from Kohli came in run chases. People tell me that you praise Virat Kohli more often than not. I just say, Why shouldn’t I do that?) During one stage, India used to win because of Virat’s hundreds.”
Tendulkar is the highest run getter in International Cricket with 34357 runs in 664 matches across formats. Virat recently crossed the 25000 international runs mark, becoming the fastest ever to do it and still has a lot of cricket left in him.
The 34-year-old is currently playing in the four-match Test series against Australia and has not had the best of series so far with a highest score of 44 in five innings.
