With only a day left for the IPL 2021 to start, RCB and Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams has tested positive for COVID-19. He is currently asymptomatic. Devdutt Paddikal has rejoined the squad after testing negative.
Just a day before the very first game of the IPL 2021 season, RCB all-rounder Daniel Sams tested positive for COVID-19. Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on the defending champions Mumbai Indians on April 9.
In a recent update shared by RCB on Twitter, the franchise claimed that Daniel Sams had checked into the team hotel in Chennai on April 3rd, with a negative COVID report on arrival. However, his report from the 2nd test on 7th April came positive. The tweet further read that Sams is currently asymptomatic and is currently in isolation at a designated medical facility.
In another statement regarding the same issue, RCB claimed that Royal Challengers Bangalore medical team is in constant touch with Daniel Sams and continue to monitor his health keeping all restrictions and directives in mind.
Sams joined the RCB camp on April 3 with a negative report but has unfortunately tested positive in a recent test. Earlier, RCB opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal also tested positive for coronavirus last week.
However, Paddikal has been added to the team after a negative report in the latest test. Padikkal, who had a prolific run with the bat last season, had tested positive on March 22 and was in isolation at his residence in Bengaluru.
On Tuesday, Mumbai Indians’ scout Kiran More also tested positive for COVID-19 while all the other members of the MI franchise have tested negative.
With only a day left before the biggest cricketing extravaganza starts, cricket fans would be hoping that no new COVID positive cases are recorded inside the bubble. The fact that players and support staff have been kept in secured bubbles and are still testing positive is a worrying sign.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly made it clear that the tournament will be held as per schedule. No changes in dates or venues would be made as it is just not viable for the cricket board, Ganguly stated a few days ago.
