KKR skipper Eoin Morgan said that his side has a very strong chance to lift the IPL trophy this year. He claimed that he has learned a lot from last year’s experience and the KKR squad looks extremely strong on paper and is very much capable of going past the strongest teams in the competition.
KKR, the two time IPL champions, last won the IPL in 2014 and since then have had ordinary seasons one after the other. However, they have maintained a very strong core of overseas and domestic players who can turn it around this time for the Shahrukh Khan-owned franchise.
Captain Eoin Morgan is confident that his side can live up to the expectations this season. KKR finished 5th on the points table last season with 7 wins and as many losses in the season. Due to poor Net Run Rate, the men in purple were unable to make the final four.
Morgan said the experience of the previous year and a fantastic squad at their disposal for the 2021 edition makes KKR one of the favourites for the title.
We really have a strong chance this year. Having gone through the experience last year, my first year as captain, Brendon McCullum’s first year as coach. Learning more and more about the players who would benefit us in a huge amount this year. We are in a really strong position, we have guys fully fit at the moment and when you look down the line, particularly on paper, our team looks pretty strong,
the KKR skipper claimed.
Talking about the squad, Morgan said that he is very happy with the bunch of players bought during the IPL 2021 auction. Along with the seasoned campaigners, the new recruits for KKR can achieve what their fans expect, the captain opined.
Talking about his relationship with other players as captain, Morgan claimed that he started off as a vice-captain for KKR, which allowed him to interact with a bunch of players and thus, the transition was smooth.
Morgan was handed the captaincy of the team mid-way into the competition last year after Dinesh Karthik willingly stepped down from the position. The southpaw looks ready to take on the challenge at the big stage this year.
