Following the striker’s release from Manchester United, Newcastle United have reportedly offered Cristiano Ronaldo a short-term contract. The Magpies hoped he would stay with them until the end of the season.
The Red Devils mutually terminated Ronaldo’s contract in November. After his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, the Red Devils did not want to maintain contact with the Portuguese star.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Ronaldo has received an offer to stay in the Premier League for the rest of the season. The Magpies were interested in signing the forward, but the deal has now fallen through, and a move to Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr is on the horizon.
“The only real offer that he has on the table is Al-Nassr. They want him from the summer and the money on the table is €200 million, it’s surreal. Two-and-a-half year contract. The priority of Cristiano was to stay and play in Europe. But now, no clubs in Europe approached him in a concrete way.
At the moment, Al-Nassr is the only solution that he has on the table. Only Newcastle, because the idea was he could play till June in Newcastle and then go to Al-Nassr but I think that has collapsed.”
Chelsea were among the frontrunners to sign the Portuguese this summer, but then-manager Thomas Tuchel blocked the deal because he did not believe the striker star would be a good fit for his squad. With the German manager now gone, rumours circulated that the Blues might be interested again, but Graham Potter has also ruled out the move.
Al-Nassr are set to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s next club after making a 200 million euros bid to beat off competition from Saudi Arabian rivals Al-Hilal. To stay in Europe, he’ll have to drastically reduce his wage demands.
Meanwhile, with no formal deal in place for the Portuguese star, Ronaldo has returned to Valdebebas, the Real Madrid training complex, according to Spanish outlet Relevo. According to the report, Los Blancos has granted him permission to train alone on a different field than the one used by Carlo Ancelotti’s first team.
