Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdou Diallo has admitted that Kylian Mbappe thinks Cristiano Ronaldo is far ahead of Lionel Messi in the age-old rivalry.
Mbappe will face Messi’s Argentina in Sunday’s World Cup final at the Lusail Stadium, as France seeks a second consecutive World Cup victory after defeating Croatia in 2018. Mbappe, who scored that day to help France to another major victory, will look to repeat the feat against the South Americans.
Messi’s team is coming off five straight victories, including a 3-0 win over Croatia on Tuesday evening, and they are determined to go all the way. However, the discussion over the last week has primarily focused on Cristiano and Leo, rather than Mbappe’s participation.
Over the last two decades, the two have competed for honours and trophies, but a World Cup victory for Messi could put an end to the debate. Mbappe believes that Ronaldo, rather than Messi, is the greatest of his generation, according to teammate Diallo, who is currently on loan at RB Leipzig and has been speaking about the Frenchman.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is literally everything to Kylian Mbappe. If you mention Lionel Messi against Cristiano, Mbappe will debate with you for at least an hour. For him, Cristiano is untouchable,”
he said.
Interestingly, Diallo’s comments coincide with Messi and Mbappe’s club teammates at PSG, and it appears that this will continue until at least the end of the season. Messi has been linked with a move away from Paris, with Inter Miami interested in his services, while Real Madrid is still interested in Mbappe.
All eyes are on their national teams this week, and some of Mbappe’s France teammates have been asked who is the better player between him and Messi.
