To to improve in the bowling department, Bangladesh’s stand-in captain Litton Das believes his team should bowl more frequently on good batting surfaces. The side has recently generally played on rank turners and bouncy surfaces at home. On such fields, they have defeated the likes of Australia and New Zealand. They recently got the better of the Indians by winning both matches at the Sher-e Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, where batting proved difficult.
They finished second by a long way in the third ODI at Chattogram on Saturday, with Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli plundering runs to help India to 409/8 in 50 overs. Chasing a mammoth target, the hosts were dismissed for 182, as India recorded their third-largest ODI victory by a margin of 227 runs.
Das felt that if his bowling contingent could bowl more frequently on surfaces that make life difficult for bowlers, they will learn to adapt, and as a result, they would be able to go a step further in improving their overall game. Bangladesh have been quite successful in recent times, particularly at home, but have struggled when the runs have been piled on.
“There were two matches in Mirpur but the batting was not that easy there. Today’s wicket was batting friendly but we did not bat well here. There was pressure of run rate and that is the reason we had to accelerate a lot.
Certainly playing in good conditions, you will be failing a lot against big teams but there are a lot of things to take from it. You can understand how you will be developing in certain areas,”
he said in the post-match presser.
“We have to work in this area. We are not a world-class side yet and working regularly on these areas will help us develop. Today we were chasing a huge total and if we had played dot balls, we could have scored 300 to 320 runs,”
Das added.
