Brazilian winger Neymar Jr, who is currently sidelined with an injury, has heaped praise on his compatriot Casemiro after the latter’s impressive goalscoring performance against Switzerland on Monday.
The Manchester United midfielder scored a beautiful goal from long range as he broke the deadlock to help his side advance to the round of 16 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. With their latest win, Tite’s men officially advanced to the knockout stages of the World Cup as they look to increase their World Cup tally to six titles.
The five-time world champions will play Cameroon on Friday in their last league stage game of the tournament before moving on to the round of 16. In the Selecao’s 2-0 triumph over Serbia in their opening match, Casemiro displayed similar brilliance.
Neymar, who missed the victory over Switzerland as a result of foot ailment, has been extremely appreciative of the Manchester United player.
“Casemiro has been the best midfielder in the world for a long time. He occupied the number six role at Real Madrid and quickly became the best in his position.
His brilliance allowed the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Karim Benzema to do well in the forward areas of the pitch. It is no surprise that Real Madrid have managed to win five Champions League titles with Casemiro in the pivot. Even at Manchester United, he has become a crucial part of the side and United are playing well with Casemiro”
he said.
After spending seven years in the Santiago Bernabeu, where he rose to fame as a Los Blancos icon, Casemiro left Madrid. He made 336 appearances, scoring 31 goals, registering 29 assists, and taking home the Champions League and La Liga titles five times each.
The 30-year-old cost 70.65 million euros when he signed with United and has since made 18 appearances, making one goal and one assist. The cost the Red Devils spent to entice him to Old Trafford was a subject of much discussion. But as each match for club and country goes by, Casemiro substantiates Neymar’s claim that he is indeed one of the best in his position.
