Former Tottenham midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart is of the opinion that Chelsea’s winger Hakim Ziyech could be a massive fit for Spurs instead.
Ziyech’s 33.3 million pounds transfer from AFC Ajax to Chelsea in 2020 hasn’t worked out well for the Moroccan winger. The Algeria international has failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and is yet to cement his place in the starting XI for the Blues. The start to the current season has also been tricky and complicated for the 29-year-old, who has started just one match for Chelsea.
He had made 39 appearances for Chelsea in 2020/21, scoring six times and assisting another four goals. Ziyech followed that season by making 44 appearances for the club across the 2021/22 season and went on to contribute a further 14 goals – scoring eight times and assisting six times.
However, under Thomas Tuchel as well as new manager Graham Potter, he hasn’t been able to get consistent game time and has featured in seven appearances, starting only once. Ziyech hasn’t made a goal contribution so far for Chelsea.
As a result, the 29-year-old explored the possibility of leaving the Blues in the summer transfer window, with clubs like AC Milan, Tottenham, and Manchester United all reportedly interested in signing him. However, he ended up staying put at Stamford Bridge.
Former Netherlands international Rafael Van der Vaart has urged Tottenham Hotspur to make a move for the out-of-favour Chelsea player.
”Hakim Ziyech has to join Tottenham. If Tottenham get Hakim Ziyech, they could win the Premier League. I am serious,”
he told Ziggo Sport.
Ziyech has also been advised to leave Chelsea as soon as possible by Dutch football legend Marco van Basten, who also went on to claim that the London-based outfit have too many players in their squad.
”There is another transfer window coming up. It is sad and a shame. Ziyech is a great player. We have to see someone like that, we watch TV for such a player and we come to the stadium,”
van Basten said.
