The Citizens leapfrogged Arsenal for the time being to go top of the Premier League table with a 3-0 win over Wolves; Tottenham Hotspur would go level on points with the Citizens later on in the day with a 6-2 success over Leicester City.
Jack Grealish gave City the lead seconds after kick-off, turning in a cross from Kevin De Bruyne past Jose Sa from close range.
Fifteen minutes later, Bernardo Silva played the ball into Erling Haaland’s feet. The Norwegian charged at the Wolves defence before firing in his shot at the near post from outside the box, his eleventh goal in just seven league games.
Phil Foden added gloss to the scoreline in the 69th minute as he flicked another De Bruyne cross past Sa for the game’s final goal.
In North London, Leicester took a surprise lead against Tottenham in the sixth minute – Youri Tielemans scoring from the spot after James Justin was brought down just inside the box. But, two minutes later, Harry Kane headed in a Dejan Kulusevski cross at the back post to restore parity.
Spurs took the lead in the 21st minute through Eric Dier, the recalled England international flicking an Ivan Perisic corner past Danny Ward in goal. But, James Maddison equalized for Leicester before the break, lifting the ball past Hugo Lloris from a Timothy Castagne cross.
Two minutes after the restart, Rodrigo Bentancur stole the ball off Wilfried Ndidi, charged forwards, and curled his shot around Ward to restore Spurs’ advantage. From then on, it was the Son Heung-min show.
The attacker scored his first of the season in the 73rd minute, a superb strike from distance after he was allowed to shoot unchallenged by the Foxes’ backline.
He scored his second in the 84th minute, curling the ball into the top corner from outside the box with his weaker foot. Two minutes later, he completed his hattrick, running onto a pass by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and squeezing the ball past Ward. 6-2, Spurs won.
